A day after a steep hike in Covid-19 positive cases in Ganjam, the district has been classified as a red zone.
As per the Union Ministry of Home Affairs guidelines, Ganjam now falls under red zone with a total tally of 21 cases with all active numbers.
Since maiden cases have been reported from Jagatsinghpur and Mayurbhanj, the two Odisha districts have been categorised as orange zones.
All necessary stipulations by the Government of India and the State Government applicable for different zones in districts or municipal corporations are to be followed scrupulously, a notification by the State Health & Family Welfare Department stated.
Now, Ganjam is the fourth district and fifth area in the State to have been designated as red zone after Jajpur, Bhadrak, Baleswar districts and the areas under the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC).
In Ganjam, all the persons tested positive for the coronavirus are returnees from Surat, Gujarat. On Thursday alone, 17 positive cases were reported in the district.
