Covid-19 hotspot Ganjam district seems to be improving with the daily positivity rate down by nearly 40 per cent.

Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange on Saturday said the daily rate has come down to 20 per cent from 60 per cent. Besides, the recovery rate has increased to 78 per cent. The number of per-day positive cases would be around 250 for next one week.

Notably, the district has reported below-300 cases for the last five days.

The Collector further informed that testing has been increased by three times and intensive health screening is the reason behind the decline in positive cases. “A fifth round of door-to-door screening in urban areas has already begun,” he said.

He said three Covid Hospitals with 530 beds and 90 ICU units are now operational in the district and 100 more beds would be added to the fold immediately.

“There are 1,763 oxygen cylinders in the Covid Care Centres in the district. Besides, 725 beds with oxygen support and 132 ambulances are there. In rural areas, there are 5,088 beds in Covid Care Homes, of which 239 have been occupied,” Kulange said.

The Berhampur Municipal Commissioner said that while the administration had targeted to collect 2,500 samples as part of a sero survey, total 2,800 have been collected after receiving an overwhelming response from the people.

Notably, the OPD of MKCG Medical College Hospital has remained closed since July 12. Though the Collector was recommended to reopen the OPD on August 10, he is yet to give his consent for it as the situation has not improved in the district, sources said.
