An elderly couple allegedly committed suicide at Narayanpursasan village under the Kabisuryanagr police station in Ganjam district on Friday after being unable to bear the death of their son. According to reports, deceased Simanchal Satpathy (27) was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Bhubaneswar and breathed his last on Friday evening.
Depressed by the death, his father and mother took the extreme step of ending their lives. While his father was found hanging from a tree near the house, the body of his mother was found hanging inside the house. Police have recovered the bodies for postmortem and initiated investigation into the matter. Source said that Simanchal was working as a teacher. He was on Corona duty at a quarantine centre in Kabisuryanagar area. He was shifted to the SUM Hospital in Bhubaneswar after he developed breathing problems on July 1. His swab sample was sent for Covid test.
However, he died under treatment at the hospital.
