Ganjam cops to be given five days off

Superintendent of Police (SP) of Police District of Ganjam Ashis Singh has brought a lot of relief to the hard-pressed cops. An IPS officer of the 2004 batch, he is also the SP of Brahmapur Police District with additional charge.

In a novel initiative to provide much-needed break from hectic work schedule, Singh has decided to give five compulsory days off to cops every year to ease their professional stress and strain.

A circular to this effect has been issued and made effective from August 15, Independence Day.

The police personnel can now avail leave on the days of their wedding anniversary and birthdays of selves, spouses and two children.

“As police personnel often experience strenuous work schedules without a break, we decided to provide them compulsory leave with pay. It is meant to enable them to spend quality time with their families,” said Singh.

In fact, the stressful nature of the job without periodic breaks was taking a toll on family life of police personnel, admit insiders. The leave of this nature would be beneficial to them and improve their work culture.

Notably, no other district has so far adopted this sort of compulsory leave practice.

Singh said, “I had submitted the proposal to higher-ups. The higher authorities were gracious enough to accord seal of approval to my proposal.”
