Ganjam cops to avail ICT benefit to rein in crimes

The Ganjam police are going to reap the benefits of information and communication technology (ICT) in controlling crime and criminals shortly.

According to information available, the Chatrapur police station has installed one CCTV inside the Hazat, sitting area of the police personnel with monitoring system kept under the control of the IIC, while another four CCTVs were installed outside the police station to curb crimes.

The Chatrapur police station is said to be the first police station to install the CCTV in the entire police district, sources revealed. After introducing ‘Aam Police System’, the CCTV was introduced to make the investigation transparent.

In another major development, the Ganjam police district is also going to introduce “Crime and Criminal Tracking Networking System” (CCTNS) soon.

By the system, the Ganjam police can be connected online to all its subordinate police stations, State police headquarters and all police stations in the country, as a result of which criminals can easily be tracked, besides getting information about any criminal in the country.

Under the new system, there would be two portals. While one of the portals would fetch information about the crimes and criminals, the other portal can be used by the public. The general public can use the other portal to register their complaints online and can know action taken on the complaints. A database of each police station would be uploaded online. The Ganjam police are contemplating to start the system in all its police stations from June 24 for which selection of site, preparation of database and schedule for imparting training to police personnel are on the verge of completion, sources revealed.

Notably, the detail work procedure for implementation of the networking system was discussed threadbare in a meeting of all IICs and SDPOs held at Chatrapur on last Friday. It was presided over by Additional DGM Akshya. DIG (Southern Division) Amitabh Thakur and Ganjam SP Asish Singh were present.
