The Ganjam District Congress Committee (DCC) on Friday staged a demonstration before the RDC office here against the unprecedented rise in the prices of essential commodities, including cooking gas, rising unemployment and imposition of GST on some basic food items consumed by common people.

Hundreds of party workers led by senior functionary Pitabash Panda and Krushak Cell Odisha Prabhari Rashmi Ranjan Pattnaik started a rally from the Bapuji Ashram towards the RDC office carrying  flags, placards and banners and shouting slogans against both the Central and State Governments for their failure in containing prices of essential commodities.

Party leaders alleged that the Modi-led Union Government has undermined the Indian Constitution and the Parliament by not allowing the Opposition to raise issues of public interest including the problem   of unemployment.

PCC observer and former Phulbani MP Nakul Nayak lambasted the Modi Government for taking the country towards the pre-Independence era and burdening the people with taxes and rising prices.

District leader Panda accused the Naveen Patnaik Government of neglecting development of Ganjam district. He said the Patnaik Government has not established a single industry in the district and has failed to check migration of workers to other States.
