Team led by Sugnana Deo to meet CM, contact PMO soon

Waking up to a call given by the Mahan Sangh, a socio-cultural-sports organisation, MlAs, leaders across party lines, intellectuals, businessmen, media personalities and representatives of social bodies of Ganjam district gathered at a conclave here on Sunday and resolved to pursue their demand through a single forum for establishment of the proposed Odisha IIM with the Chief Minister, the Union Human Resource Development Minister and the Prime Minister.

The forum named as the Ganjam District Intellectuals’ and Associations’ Coordination Committee would also fight for overall development of the district uninterruptedly.

The conclave held under chairmanship of Mahan Sangha president Sushant Kumar Sabat at the Subham Celebration was attended by MlAs V Sugnana Deo, Dr RC Chyau Pattnaik, Purna Chandra Sethy, Dr Priyansu Pradhan, senior BJP leader and former Deputy Speaker in the State Assembly Ramchandra Panda, former MP Nityananda Pradhan, former MlAs Adikand Sethy and Siba Shankar Sahani, Government Advocate Pradeep Behrea and lawyer Ashok Sukla among others.

The attendees kept their views as to why Brahmapur deserves the proposed IIM when there is no national level institute or industry in the district, which has played vital role in the making of modern Odisha. They also lamented that despite giving a long-tenure Chief Minister to the State, the district lacks development.

It was decided that a 21-member all-party team led by Kabisuryanagar MlA V Sugnana Kumari Deo would call on Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik soon to press for establishment of the proposed IIM and an aerodrome at Brahmapur. Besides, it would urge for inclusion of Brahamapur in the Smart City project and development of railway infrastructure in the district. The offices of the Union Human Resource Ministry and the Prime Minister would be contacted in this regard.

The meeting also decided to resort to peaceful agitations to press for the demand of IIM establishment, if required. The coordination committee would meet regularly every two-to-three months to urge the Chief Minister to hold review meetings for the development of the district.
