While supporting the Bharat Bandh by traders on February 26 demanding simplification of the GST provisions, the Ganjam Chamber of Commerce alleged that the GST Council has brought about 950 amendments in last four years without taking the traders’ difficulties into account and making them just a law-abiding machine.
In a Press release, Ganjam Chamber of Commerce honorary secretary V Santosh Kumar, enlisting some of the provisions, said under the current regime, it is very difficult to do business. He also slammed Government for not forming the Appellate Tribunal to sort out cases because of which the traders have to go to the court for every small case.
He alleged that some of the officers of GST torture traders badly across the country and force the traders to pay huge amounts of money in the department without hearing them.
If any change related to GST compliance is brought, the business is not given time to change its software nor is it given the opportunity to understand the change, due to which the traders are either forced to change business or bear heavy lose, he charged. He also said that the fees levied for late filing of return are often more than the tax.
