A team of BJP leaders from Ganjam on Friday met Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in New Delhi and submitted a memorandum demanding timely maintenance of railway lines of the Brahmapur railway station.

They memorandum mentioned that the Brahmapur railway station, which falls on the Howrah-Chennai route, shares one-third of Rs 14,000 crore being collected as revenue from Odiha annually.

However, the station is yet to have all modern facilities that are available at stations that contribute comparatively less revenue to the Indian Railways. The delegation demanded that the Samparka Kranti Express and Jana Satabdi Express trains should have an initiation point at the station as it is the only big station that comes in Odisha after Andhra Pradesh.

There should be also coaching and washing facilities at the nearby Golanthara station, the memorandum said. Besides, the team demanded for construction of a special Brahmapur-Sambalpur railway line so that people of south Odisha can have easy communication to western Odisha. The delegation said that as a large number of people reside in Surat, there should be direct trains between Brahmapur and Bombay and Brahmapur to Surat.

The delegation included district BJP president Bibhuti Bhusan Jena, State executive member Saroj Sabat and Krishna Reddy.
