The first meeting of the newly-constituted Ganjam district executive committee of the BJP was held here with BK Swain presiding over it. The meeting was also attended by two State party observers, State spokesperson Sameer Mohanty and State secretary Biranchi Tripathy.

The meeting discussed about the forthcoming elections to the urban bodies in the district. Two separate committees were formed, one for selection of prospective candidates and the other to look after campaigning.

The meeting was, among others, addressed by  former Assembly Deputy Speaker Rama Chandra Panda, former district president Sisir Kumar Padhi, youth leaders Kahnu Charan Pati, Suresh Padhi, Kamana Padhi and State executive member Saroj Kumar Sabat.

Rama Chandra Panda reportedly said that in order to defeat both the BJD and the Congress, different small parties could be considered for giving a joint fight under the BJP banner in the civic body elections. If small parties express their willingness for this, it may be considered by the BJP depending upon the winnability of the candidates, said he said, according to sources.
