Three arrested; luxury car seized
A Flying Squad of the Excise Department seized ganja worth Rs 6 lakh at Link Road in the city while the contraband was being smuggled by a luxury car on Saturday morning.
Acting on a tipoff, the excise officials intercepted the Tata Manza car on suspicion and found four gunny bags stashed with ganja. Three persons were arrested and the car was seized in this connection.
The seized contraband was being smuggled to Medinapore in West Bengal from Aska in Ganjam district. The accused trio admitted this during interrogation, police said.
It may be mentioned that of late, smuggling of ganja by luxury sedans and emergency vehicles like ambulances have turned to be a safe modus operandi for the smugglers.
