Excise Department officials on Thursday managed to nab a ganja smuggler and seized a huge cache of the contraband in the Binika area in Subarnapur district after the car by which he was travelling skidded off road and plunged into a canal.
Earlier, a team led by the Excise Superintendent had tried to intercept the car after getting information that ganja was being illegally transported in the vehicle. The car fell into the canal after an accident during the chase.
While the driver of the car fled from the spot, an occupant of the vehicle was arrested. The car was seized and further investigation was underway.
