Jails no more bar the gangsters from carrying out their nefarious activities. A number of cases have come to light recently which revealed how the gang lords, lodged in jails in the State, carried out their operations through their cronies using mobile phones.
Mobile phones and other gadgets are being smuggled into the prisons sometimes allegedly with the help of some dishonest jail officials.
In a bid to stop these nefarious activities, the Odisha police on Wednesday decided to shift notorious gangster Syed Usman Ali alias Tito from Jharpada Special Jail to Brahamapur Circle Jail.The police have directed the Brahamapur jail to beef security arrangements in the jail.Sources said many associates of the gangster were also lodged in Jharpada jail.
The authorities decided to shift him to Brahamapur jail to prevent him from hatching criminal conspiracies that were suspected to have taken place from the jail.
Frequent raids were being conducted on the jail for the last few days following Himanshu Lal joined as the IG Prisons. In a recent raid, a mobile phone and ganja were seized from near Tito’s cell.
