Police here on Friday made gangster Sushant Dhalasamant a co-accused in last month’s Subhadrapur firing incident in which the police had earlier this week arrested suspended BJD Corporator Ranjeeta Biswal.
Besides Ranjeeta, three others, including sharp shooter Mrutyunjay Naik had been arrested in the firing incident in which a contractor Bijoy Pal was targeted. Police said Bijoy was made the target as he refused to pay extortion money to mafia D-brothers. Under heavy security cover Sushant was brought from Jharpada jail in Bhubaneswar and was produced before the court of JMFC here. He was taken under judicial custody afresh in the firing incident after he was booked under Section 307 of IPC.
In another development, Sushant’s lawyer Soura Chandra Mohapatra on the day filed an objection petition in the same court challenging the city police’s bid to take Sushant on police remand for questioning him in custody with regard to the fresh case. “The objection petition of Sushant has been fixed for final hearing on Monday next,” sources said, adding that on the same day the Court is also likely to take a decision on the police prayer to take Ranjeeta Biswal for custodial interrogation.
The police are planning to jointly interrogate Sushant and Ranjeeta making them sit face-to-face to unearth the sources and routes of some illegal firearms, which were apparently handed over to the sharpshooter allegedly by Ranjeeta.
