A BJP delegation on Monday met the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) Chairman and urged him to take stringent actions against the culprits involved in the gang-rape and death of a woman in the Malkangiri police canteen and gang-rape and forcible abortion of a minor girl in Biramitrapur in Sundargarh district.
The team led by BJP State general secretary Lekhasri Samantsinghar urged the chairman to ask the State Government to constitute a special investigation team to probe the incident. They demanded that the culprits be punished under the SC and ST Atrocities Act.
“A tribal woman, Chandrama Bhumia, was gang-raped in the Malkangiri police canteen on May 7. Later she died. While two months have passed, no action has been taken. In another incident, a minor girl, who was gang-raped for three months, was forced to undergo an abortion on June 22 by the Biramitrapu PS IIC. In this case, the IIC has been arrested but five other accused persons are moving scot-free. The Government has sat silent as police personnel are involved in both the incidents,” alleged the team.
BJP Legislature Party Leader Mohan Majhi and Sundargarh MLA Kusum Tete were other members of the team.
