The puja season ambiences in Cuttack descended with Ganesh Puja celebrated on Friday. A record number of over 700 puja mandaps have come up in the city this year apart from the pujas of the elephant-headed god held in all the educational institutions. Different days have been allotted for different puja mandaps to hold the immersion ceremonies next month.

The Ganesh Puja will usher in other pujas for next three months. lining up now are the Biswakarma Puja, Durga Puja, Kali Puja and lakshmi Puja followed by the Kartikeswar Puja that will culminate the puja season in November.

like the Durga Puja, the Ganesh Uuja in Cuttack is catching up year after year as more and more youth clubs are observing this puja with a lot of enthusiasm and fanfare. “This is definitely going to create more and more law and order situation, besides compounding the perennial traffic problem of the city,” feels Mahanagar Peace Committee general secretary Bhikari Das.

Das said youth clubs are now mushrooming in every lane and by-lane of the city, and after two to three years of their existence they are plunging into this culture of having pujas. He, however, pointed out that all the Sahi (local) Committees are contemplating to unite all clubs to have a single Ganesh Puja mandap in their area in a grand style.

Efforts in this regard have yielded better results in Choudhury Bazar and Bidanasi, Das informed, hoping that others would follow suit soon.
