The agitating Gana Shikshaks on Thursday called off their strike and decided to join schools from Friday after the State Government assured them of regularisation of their jobs from the 2016-17 financial year.

As many as 17,653 Gana Shikshaks who have already completed six years in service would be regularised in the first phase. Decision to this effect was taken at the Inter-Ministerial Committee meeting.

Welcoming the decision the striking teachers, who have been agitating in front of the State Assembly since December 22 withdrew the stir. A delegation of teachers led by its Odisha Gana Shikshaks Mahasangha president Sarat Chandra Nayak met members of the Inter-Ministerial Committees and announced their decision.

“The Chief Minister has given his approval to the recommendations of the Inter-Ministerial Committee facilitating regularisation of our jobs. Keeping this in view, we will join schools and resort to teaching from Friday,” said Nayak.
