The Indian Railways as part of its “redevelopment” projects has decided to set up a gallery concourse on Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose at the Cuttack railway station. Cuttack is the birthplace of the legendary freedom fighter, who was born in his ancestral house at Odia Bazaar on January 23, 1897.
Senior railway officials of the Khurda Road Division of East Coast Railways while visiting the city on Monday informed that the Cuttack is one of the 70 railway stations of the country which have been selected for redevelopment. An amount of Rs 9.91 crore would be spent here by March this year for providing several facilities.
The facilities would include improvement of the façade of the station building, six lifts, an escalator, another foot over-bridge connecting all platforms, a digital museum system and a selfie zone. Widening of roads approaching the station and fountains at the two entrance gates are also in the pipeline.
The redevelopment project also has plans to provide the station with a green environment with facilities such as a decentralised organic waste treatment plant and 120 twin type stainless steel dustbins. Similarly, importance is also given towards improving the security system at the railway system with additional baggage scanner and CCTV cameras.
