Gajbhiye suspension unlikely to be revoked

The Odisha Government on Wednesday reportedly decided not to revoke the suspension of State-cadre IPS officer and former Kendrapada SP Satish Kumar Gajbhiye.

A decision to this effect was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Secretary GC Pati which was also attended by Home Secretary Asit Tripathy and General Administration Principal Secretary Nitin Chandara.

Highly-placed sources said the State Government might not reverse the suspension order since draft charges have been framed against the police officer.

last month the Centre had confirmed the suspension of Gajbhiye as per All India Services Rules after which draft charges have been framed against him.

The 2002-batch IPS officer, who has been served the draft charges through the Director General of Police (DGP), would have to respond within 30 days. Gajbhiye was placed under suspension on August 13, six days after the brutal police action against the locals in Kendrapada on August 7 during a protest. On November 13, the suspension period of Gajbhiye would enter 90 days.
