In another such incident, a youth of Rayagada village in Gajapati district died while working as a daily wager in a plant in Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu.

The youth was identified as Pankaj Bardhan, son of Soraj Bardhan and Sandhyarani Bardhan of Christian Majhi Sahi. Pankaj had left for Coimbatore in search of work a week ago after discontinuing graduation course due to utter poverty.

He joined the CRI Pumps Private limited there. He was earning Rs 220 as a daily wage. He died in the company premises while returning to his room on April 22.

After being informed by his co-workers that Pankaj was critical needing immediate treatment,  Pankaj’s brothers Niroj and Firoz and two villagers James Misal and Arpan Pani borrowed money and went to Coimbatore. However, they were saddened to see Pankaj lying dead in a hospital.

“This is just another sorrowful incident faced by a family in the district. Hundreds of educated and uneducated youths are still working outside the State as daily labourers in risky conditions. While such incidents have occurred earlier, who knows whose turn comes next,” lamented many.

Meanwhile, villagers urged the district Collector and labour Officer to bring back the body and pay adequate compensation to the poor bereaved family.
