A group of tribals of Nuagada block in Gajapati district led by BJP Mandal president Sudarsan Mandal and youth leader Saroj Sabat staged a demonstration in front of the block office on Tuesday demanding an inquiry into the alleged corruption in allotment of house under the Indira Awas Yojana (IAY).
later, the team submitted a memorandum to district Collector through the BDO. The agitator alleged that in many cases houses are given to those who are BJD supporters and belong to comparatively well-to-do families.
Besides, many development works have been executed by outsiders in exchange of bribe, they added.
On the occasion, former Deputy Speaker of Assembly Ramachandra Panda also urged the Government to make an independent enquiry into the corruption charges by innocent tribals. Among others, tribal leader Manoj Paika, Sura Mandal, Gourang Rout and Santanu Guru took active part in the demonstration.
