The Mohana police have registered a case of women trafficking involving a girl from Manikpur allegedly being sold in New Delhi.

Police said the daughter of Panchu Sabar was taken to Delhi by a woman, Subhadra, of Digpahandi in Ganjam district with promise of comfortable life to her.

Subhadra through her frequent visits to the village had developed personal acquaintances with Panchu’s family and especially his children. On the day of Rakhi Purnima, she came to the village; and seeing the absence of Panchu in his house, she fled along with Panchu’s daughter. After a few days, the girl was spotted in Delhi.

It was learnt that Subhadra sold the girl in Delhi and forcibly married her to a man of another community. Only when the girl called Anganawadi Worker Mamata Bhuyan of Manikpur village, the case of her trafficking came to the fore.

Based on an FIR of Panchu, the Mohana police registered case and started investigation.
