The death of Gajapati ADM Karunakara Raika, who died at the MKCG Medical College Hospital at Brahmapur on Tuesday, was confirmed as a Covid case by district Collector Anupam Saha on Wednesday.
The swab samples of Raika had been sent for tests. The report, which came positive, was received after his death, said the Collector.
Notably, Raika was in charge of the Covid Hospital here. A few days back, he was admitted to a hospital here after he was taken ill. He was shifted to the MKCG Hospital on Tuesday as his condition deteriorated.
Born to a scheduled tribe family in Atara Singh village under Nuagada block of Gajapati district, Raika became an OAS officer due to his dedication and hard work.
It is the first case where an OAS office died due to Covid.
