Police on Thursday night arrested the owner of the ill-fated bus that fell off Gaelo Ghat in Deogarh district killing 27 persons last month.
Tapan Kumar Mohanty was arrested by the Deogarh police from Angul for operating the bus without having valid documents.
It may be recalled that Cuttack Road Transport Officer (RTO) Dipti Ranjan Patra on April 19 had filed an FIR against Mohanty at the lalbag police station in Cuttack for running his vehicle without a fitness certificate and a route permit.
The move had been made two days after 27 members of the Bargarh-based Bharati Gananatya (an opera party) were killed after the bus in which they were travelling nosedived from Gaelo Ghat. The bus fell 300 feet into a gorge.
