A pregnant woman had to undergo a traumatic experience after she was taken to a hospital from her house for admission and hospital again returned her back home, saying that it was not her time of delivery. Unfortunately, for the to-and-fro journey, the woman was taken on a cot, ferried by others. The victim woman was identified as Urmila Sabar of Karjeesahi village, which was on a hilly terrain. As she got labour pain, immediately she was ferried in a cot by villagers first to the Rayagada CHC. But doctors there referred her to Paralakhemundi. At Paralakhemundi, however, the doctor who checked her up noticed that she had not reached her time of delivery. So again that woman was taken back to her village suffering pain all way to home.

The question now raised is on the working of the health system in rural belt. Each revenue village has an ASHA and anganwadi workers, besides an ANM for safe delivery of child. More so, ASHA worker has an important role in transportation of women to hospital. But in this case, how was woman's delivery time not properly detected, asked many. Besides, the woman was not provided ambulance facility. So, the villagers demanded action against all those officials for gross negligence to victim.
