Fund being raised for Rehman? Police say false

Published on:

The Cuttack district rural police on Thursday claimed that the complaint about donations being collected from the Muslim community to raise funds to meet the legal expenses of arrested Al-Qaeda terror module Abdul Rehman is “false” and “fabricated”.

The police are now in a tizzy after it was established in preliminary investigations that a bogus complaint was filed by one Sheikh Tahimur Ali of Sahipada village under the Salepur police station alleging that some youths of his community were coercing him to cough up a hefty amount as donation to meet the legal expenses of Rehman. The suspected terrorist was arrested by the Delhi Police last year from his house at Madhya Kachha of the locality.

“The investigations so far have revealed that Tahimur had some previous rivalries with the youths of his village over his marital discord after uttering triple talaq. Although Tahimur had divorced his wife, he was establishing conjugal relations with her without observing the Iddatt period to which the youths were objecting. In order to teach a lesson to the youths, Tahimur came up with the complaint implicating them for collecting donations for Rehman,” said Salepur SDPO PK Jena.

Jena, however, informed that the police have registered a case basing on the complaint of Tahimur, who has named five youths and alleged that they had demanded an amount of Rs 50,000 from him as donation to meet the legal expenses of Rehman. He has further alleged that the youths have threatened him and his son of dire consequences if he doesn’t pay the money.

Although no arrests have been made in this connection yet, the police are investigating into this sensational development from all angles, Jena told this correspondent over phone.
