About 500 volunteers of Bakul Foundation visited about 30 institutions in Cuttack and Padampur in Bargarh, besides other towns, on Sunday spreading joy among children on the International Day of Service (IDOS).

The institutions included about 20 Anganwadis and 10 child care institutions, open learning systems, SOS Children’s village, Madhurmayee Ashram, Jeevan Jyoti Ashram, Asha Kiran, Anand Mission, Pratibha Ashram etc. The activities were conducted in 22 cities of India also. This year, Bakul added another dimension of responsibility to the fun activities. At the suggestion of the State Women and Child Development (WCD) Department and UNICEF, the Bakul volunteers ensured that minimum standards of safety of children are maintained in the institutions visited by them by facilitating flow of information.

Notably, the IDOS is celebrated across the world on the first Sunday of May every year to promote the spirit of volunteerism and provide a platform for volunteers to contribute to society. It was created by Bakul Foundation and celebrated for the first time in 2011 in over 50 countries and 25 cities in India.
