A special squad of the Odisha Police arrested a gang-rape accused of Nayagarh district who was on the run for the past seven years.
The accused Bhaskar Sahu had managed to flee from the custody of police in December 2014 when he was brought to a court in Bhubaneswar for appearance in connection with the case.
He has been re-arrested during operation ‘Bring Back’, a special drive launched by the State police to track down wanted fugitives.
Sahu had fled outside Odisha following his escape and returned to his home recently due to th lockdown.
"He was involved in a gang-rape case registered at a Mahila police station.
He had escaped from judicial custody on December 9, 2014 and was at large since then. We conducted a raid at Odagaon in Nayagarh yesterday and arrested him," Special Squad SP Sanjeeb Satpathy said.
Sathpathy said under the ‘Bring Back’ drive, the Crime Branch has prepared a list of absconding criminals and the operation would be intensified to nab them.
