The Commissionerate Police are likely to seek a fresh remand of arrested gangster siblings Sushant and Sushil Dhalsamant in six other cases. The brothers have already been taken on remand in eight of the total fourteen cases registered against them.

Commissioner of Police YB Khurania said the police are in the process of gathering more evidence against them in these cases and would very soon seek their further remand.

Khurania said the police have reopened a case in connection with the mysterious disappearance of Chauliaganj-based scrap dealer Baidhar Sahoo as they suspect involvement of the Dhalsamant siblings in it.

Sahoo went missing in 2005. Though his family had lodged a complaint alleging that he had been kidnapped, police are yet to trace him.

“The case has been reopened and will be probed thoroughly,” said Khurania, adding that the statements of Sahoo’s brother and sister-in-law have been recorded at the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Court.

Besides Sahoo, the police suspect involvement of the gangster siblings in the murder of Sagar Panda, a criminal. He was brutally killed in 2012 near his house at Kissanagar on the outskirts of Cuttack. His bullet-riddled body was recovered from near the Budhianipata bridge on the Kishorenagar-Sompur Road.

Panda, who was working as a contractor, allegedly had links with several criminal gangs for last couple of years.
