The mafia Dhalsamant brothers along with seven of their arrested associates were produced before the SDJM Court here on Friday in connection with seven fresh cases registered against them recently.
lacking jurisdiction, the SDJM Court committed two of the new cases to be tried by the Session’s Court and remanded them to judicial custody in the remaining five cases, informed the brothers’ advocate SC Mohapatra.
Earlier in the morning, the brothers Sushant and Sushil had been brought here from Bhubaneswar and Baleswar jails, respectively, amid tight security before being produced in the court. Sources said henceforth, the brothers would be produced before the magistrate through videoconferencing.
Ever since their arrests in January, the Commissionerate Police have slapped as many 17 cases against the brothers on charges of possessing huge arms and ammunitions, extortion, tender-fixing, illegal mining and preparing fake documents.
