Freethought Party seeks UU V-C ouster

Published on:

The Freethought Party of India recently demanded ouster of Utkal University Vice-Chancellor Dr Ahok Das alleging that he violated laws by erecting a Hindu Goddess idol at the varsity gate and conducting a medievalistic Rath Yatra with the varsity funds.

The party has submitted a memorandum to Governor SC Jamir in this regard, informed party general secretary B Ramchandra CST Voltaire.

“Utkal University is wholly maintained out of State funds. As many as 21 Hindu temples of different gods and goddesses have been set up in the University campus. Recently, the VC spent Rs 60,000 for holding a medievalistic Rath Yatra inside the campus. These all have violated various laws of the Constitution,” the memorandum mentioned in the memorandum.

Party members also staged a dharna here to press for the VC’s ouster and other demands. Other demands include establishment of English medium schools for all students, adoption of France differential policy on politics and religion in India and formation of a Global Government for world peace and development.
