The District Freedom Fighters’ Association jointly with the local civic body observed the 75th Kranti Diwas at the Alaka Ashrama here on Wednesday.

Freedom fighter Madhabananda Manohari recalling the Quit India Movement said Mahatma Gandhi had called the “Do or Die” stir in 1942 which had a serious impact across the nation.

A new generation of youth leaders had emerged to take the movement forward all over the country. The then undivided Cuttack district had sponsored many new generation independence fighters.

The association requested the Union and State Governments to take possible steps to fulfil the freedom fighters’ pre-Independence period vision of building a corruption-free country, giving the poor their rights, developing cottage industry, self-employment for youths, eradicating illiteracy and women empowerment which has not been fulfilled as desired.

Among others, freedom fighters Biswanath Das, Yogendra Moharana, Bhagirathi Swain, civil society members, Municipality Chairman Biplab Choudhury, advocate Muralidhar Sahoo, Rabindra Mohanty, Nityananda Panda and social activist Gouranga Charana Hota were present.
