Wi-Fi services would soon be made available free of cost across the State capital city covering major streets, institutions and landmarks.
This was informed by Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs Secretary Durga Shanker Mishra on his Twitter handle on Sunday.
“Bhubaneswar Smart City will soon have free Wi-Fi services across major streets, institutions & landmarks. This will surely be a step towards creating a connected city and bridge the digital divide amongst citizens,” Mishra tweeted.
As many as 500 Wi-Fi hotspots would be installed in the city under the ‘Bhubaneswar Me’ Wi-Fi Services. It would provide high-speed internet at a speed of 2 mbps. Besides, a centralised monitoring system would be put in place for uninterrupted services.
It may be recalled that in November 2018, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had made an announcement in this regard after a meeting chaired at the state Secretariat here.
