Samajwadi Party State president Rabi Behera has urged the Odisha Human Rights Commission Acting Chairperson BK Mishra to direct the State Government to provide education to the economically weaker section free of cost in English medium schools and also free treatment to them in the private hospitals.
In a memorandum to the OHRC Acting Chairperson Mishra, Behera stated that the private English medium schools and hospitals are obliged to provide free service to the poor and underprivileged sections of people since they have got free or highly subsidized land and other sops from the Government.
The English medium schools should reserve 25 per cent of their seats for free admission while the private and corporate hospitals under CSR should treat 10 per cent ICU patients and 25 per cent outdoor patients free of cost from the BPl category.
But these hospitals and schools in Odisha are not doing it, said Behera.
The SP requested the rights body to appoint a nodal officer in respective department to monitor the implementation of the free schemes of the hospitals and schools and direct the Development Commissioner / Chief Secretary to review the programme every month and take to task those found guilty.
