To mark the birth anniversary of musician and singer Freddie Mercury’s birthday, the Society for Nature, Education and Health (SNEH) celebrated Freddie for a Day at its youth cell at the Salia Sahi slum here on Thursday.
Musician, singer, song writer and best known as lead vocalist and lyricist of the Queen rock band, Freddie Mercury was also an HIV activist.
SNEH also organised a quiz competition on HIV/AIDS for 25 slum boys and girls in five separate groups. Quiz masters Jayjyoti Panda and Dr Sashmita Priyadarshini conducted the event and provided information about the HIV virus and interspersed the programme with tidbits on Mercury’s life and music.
The quiz was followed with a dance programme using Freddie’s popular songs.
