The Sundargarh police arrested one Sanjib Kerketta (36) of Denigbadi on Thursday for allegedly kidnapping, raping and killing a four-year-old girl six days ago. He was also forwarded to court.
Chotu (4) was abducted in front of her mother laxmi Oram at Dengibadi Orampara under the Town police station. An unidentified miscreant suddenly barged into her house and forcibly lifted Chotu. laxmi ran behind the person to rescue her daughter, but in vain. laxmi had lodged an FIR at the Town police station.
On Tuesday night, after getting information about some foul smell coming from an under-constructed house near a rice mill at Dengibadi, the police went to the spot and recovered the body of Chotu.
The police detained Sanjib, who during interrogation confessed to the crime. Sanjib, who is married, has criminal records, said Sundargarh SP N Kanoria.
