Four flights made emergency landing at the Biju Patnaik International Airport here in the wee hours of Saturday due to unfavourable weather. The Kolkata-bound fights, including those of two Air India and two private airlines, made the emergency landing owing to low visibility.
While the passengers of the Air India flights were shifted to a city hotel, the boarders of the private airlines had to stay at the airport. The airport authorities said two Delhi-Kolkata flights, a Mumbai-Kolkata flight and a Dhaka-Kolkata flight landed here due to dense fog.
However, the stranded passengers of the flights expressed resentment over the poor coordination in the airport.
They said though they got down here at around 1 am, the flight could not land in Kolkata due to heavy fog, but they did not get proper facility at the airport.
However, the airport officials said the passengers were taken care of properly. “We provided every possible facility for passengers’ care. We sent some passengers to hotels as they wanted to take rest. Some took rest inside the airport lounge, said airport Director Sharad Kumar.
