With an aim to provide an appropriate platform for exchange of knowledge and ideas on wildlife ecology, rehabilitation and conservation through congregation of academicians, scientists, researchers and clinicians, the College of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry in collaboration with the Association of Indian Zoo and Wildlife Veterinarians is all set to organise a four-day national symposium at the Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) here.
The symposium on ‘Newer approaches in welfare and health management of captive and free living wild animals’ will begin from April 18 and culminate on April 21.
More than 300 experts from across the globe including the US and Singapore would attend the event. “We have already received confirmation of nearly 250 delegates, including those from the US and Singapore. We hope the number will cross 300,” said organising committee president Dr Niranjan Sahu, adding that discussions on the practical challenges encountered with solutions thereof would be the advantages of the event.
On the first day, a special programme on ‘Snakes and snakebites’ would be held which would encompass habitats of snakes, live demonstration of poisonous and nonpoisonous snakes, preparation of anti-snake venom and medical management of snakebites.
On the second day, a seminar on newer approaches in welfare and health management of captive and free living wild animals would be held. Discussions on newer approaches to diagnosis, treatment and control of diseases in wildlife would be held on the third day while an educational tour of the Balukhanda sanctuary in Puri district would be undertaken on the last day, Dr Sahu informed.
