The Commissionerate police busted a notorious dacoit gang by arresting five persons in the Jagatpur area in Cuttack city on Friday and seized cash and some firearms from them.
Police seized two pistols (one 9mm, another toy gun), two live rounds, Rs 1 lakh cash, five mobile phones, two bikes, and a sharp-edged weapon from their possession during the raid at a hideout.
The arrested dacoits were identified as Lipu alias Khirod Sethi, Dipu alias Chakradhar Sethi, Chiku alias Khageswar Jena and Babu.
“Lipu and Dipu are brothers and they belong to the Tangi area. The places of residence of Chiku and Babu are yet to be ascertained,” said Cuttack DCP Prateek Singh.
Police knew about the activities of the gang while investigating into the complaint of one Ayushkant Sahoo, whose SBI Kiosk Centre at Purushttampur Chhak under the Jagatpur PS was looted by the gang on November 4 at gunpoint. The accused had decamped with Rs 1.29 lakh.
