The Brahmapur police with the help of their Delhi counterparts on Thursday arrested BJP leader and former Brahmapur Municipal Corporation (BMC) Mayor Siva Shankar Dash from Delhi in connection with several criminal cases pending against him.

Sources said Dash is being brought to Brahmapur on transit remand. Dash, currently a BMC Corporator, had also been arrested in February last year for allegedly attempting to kill BJD leader Alekh Choudhury’s son Chetan, a lawyer, by setting a car to crush him near Gosaninuagaon while he was walking down to his home on June 22, 2014.

Many other criminal cases were also pending against him in different police stations in the city.

The former Mayor had resigned from the ruling BJD on March 17, 2014 just before the Assembly elections after being denied a party ticket to contest from the Brahmapur Assembly constituency. He later joined the BJP and unsuccessfully contested from the constituency.
