Sale of fish imported from Andhra Pradesh has been disrupted in Ganjam district for the last two days after the scare of use of formalin in coating fish surfaced in the State.
About 20 tonnes of fish, which is imported from the neighbouring State daily, has been stopped for the last two days. Only local fish are being sold at different places, including Mardaraj Vending Zone at Bijepur and Big Bazaar fish market, informed fishermen here on Monday.
local fish, which are being brought from Digapahandi, Kukudakhandi and Rangeilunda area of the district, don’t meet need of denizens as locals buy all those fishes, said some locals.
Fish traders have also suffered a lot as each of them is selling around 30 kg of fish now against 100 kg earlier, said Padma Behera, a fish trader.
However, consumers have expressed strong resentment as no sample test has been done to establish formalin use in fish in the city.
