Forces at Rourkela picnic spots to prevent drowning

Published on:

Security has been tightened with deployment of forces at different important picnic spots here to check drowning since the peak time is on. This was done in the wake of regular incidents of drowning. As many as 17 youths have died in drowning in Rourkela last year. The forces will remain deployed till the holidaying and picnicking period is over, said sources.

Notably, the picnickers go deep into the river currents and end up drowning. “Since several youths, while going for picnic, drown in river, we are presently deploying police personnel at important picnic sites on holidays to prevent mishaps. We had also deployed police personnel at picnic spots on the Christmas and the New Year day,” said SP Anirudh Kumar Singh.
