The Forage Day was celebrated by the All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) on Forage Crops and Utilisation (ICAR) at the OUAT fodder farm near Khandagiri here on Friday.

The programme was conducted under the chairmanship of OUAT Dean of Research Dr MM Mishra and attended by chief guest Dean, Institute of Agricultural Sciences, SOA University Dr BK Sahoo; Associate Director of Research, Coastal Zone Dr CM Khanda; Dr MR Satapathy, Dr SK Swain, Dr Anita Mohanty, Dr Suman Joshi, Dr Swarnalata Dash, Dr Digbijaya Swain, Dr Kartik Pradhan, Binayak Dash and Nalinikanta Panda of OUAT.

A Students’ Awareness Programme was organised by Dr Arabinda Dhal, Officer-in-Charge of AICRP on Forage Crops, OUAT.

The experts emphasised on extensive utilisation and popularisation of new varieties of different fodder crops in farmers’ fields as an increasing consumption of green fodder would ultimately benefit the dairy farmers by enhancing the milk yield of milch cattle and overall growth of the small ruminants.

Students of the College of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry visited the golden jubilee forage garden and were made aware of different forage crops suitable for growing in the State. A quiz competition was organised among the students and the winners were awarded prizes.
