Despite being a handicap, ward member Minati Barik of Bajapur under Katanabania gram panchayat of Rajkanika block always ensures that the people of her locality get maximum benefits of the Government sponsored schemes.

The 28-year-old represents ward No.11 of Katanabania GP. When she was only 10 months’ old , she was afflicted with polio and became disabled.

One can come across Minati riding her tri-cycle and moving door to door to provide her much needed service to the poor and destitute persons for enrolling their names in social security schemes like NFSA, old age and widow pension schemes.

“I always strive to ensure the people of my ward would get benefits of all Government sponsored schemes. Though it has become a difficult task for a physically disabled girl like me to move on a tricycle, but I am determined,” said Minati, adding that she regularly moves to Katanabania Gram panchayat office on her tri-cycle to solve the problems of her ward people by drawing the attention of the local sarpanch and panchayat officials.

She also involves herself in anti-liquor movement. While Minati’s father is a hearing impaired person, her mother is visually impaired. They are daily wagers.

“If any kind person provides a Scooty meant for the disabled persons, then it would further boost the morale and willpower of Minati to work for her people,” locals of Bajapur said.
