As many as 87 girl students of the Tabarsingh Hostel under Gajapati district’s R Udayagiri block were taken ill due to food poisoning and hospitalised at the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) here on Thursday night.
As students started vomiting, school authorities along with villagers rushed to them to the nearby Ramgiri hospital first. However, they were shifted to the DHH later at 10 pm by a bus.
On being informed, district Collector Anupam Shah, District Education Officer Pradip Kumar Nag, District Welfare Officer Santosh Rath visited the hospital.
While about 50 students were discharged on Friday morning, the rest 35 girls were still undergoing treatment by the time of filing of this story.
A special team, formed under direction of the district Collector, is conducting investigation into the matter, said sources.
