Flyover between Khandagiri and Kolathia demanded

A day after the serious accident occurred at the Khandagiri Square, the Commissionerate Police called a meeting to discuss with the Khandagiri local committee and officials of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) about a permanent solution to avoid accidents in the vulnerable area.

During the discussions, the local committee members demanded that the NHAI construct a flyover between the Khandagiri Square and the Kolathia Square in order to control heavy traffic rush.

Twin City Police Commissioner Dr RP Sharma, quoting the locals demands, told reporters that building a flyover may solve the traffic problems in the area. “So, we decided to write to the NHAI with a strong recommendation to undertake such a project,” Sharma said.

He also informed that two high barriers would be installed near the twin hill road to check heavy vehicles’ movement towards the Khandagiri traffic post.

NHAI Chief Engineer Bharat Chandra Pradhan said the road from Khandagiri to Chandaka near the twin hill would be banned for entry of heavy vehicles. As an alternative, the heavy vehicles including tourist buses would use the Kolathia-Tapoban road for their movement. “As the road near the tourist spot (Khandagiri and Udayagiri) is a busy highway, the local people demanded that the route be banned for heavy vehicles,” he added.

Among others, NHAI Project Director Anil Dixit was present at the meeting.
