An election flying squad seized cash of Rs 8 lakh from an SUV during checking on the Astarang-Kakatpur road on Saturday night.
A youth was detained in this connection, but later he was freed following interrogation. According to reports, the vehicle was going from Konark to Astarang in the night. The officials of the election flying squad seized the cash from the SUV during an inspection.
A probe is underway to unearth the source of the money.
As Kakatpur is going to polls on Monday, it was suspected that the cash was meant for disbursement to woo voters ahead of the elections.
