Two new airlines, FlYeasy and Air Vistara, are going to start domestic air operations from the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) here from October this year.
BPIA Director Sharad Kumar said both airlines have submitted their flight schedules and have obtained necessary approvals and clearances. While Air Vistara has received approval for New Delhi flights, FlYeasy would connect to Bangalore. Vistara would start its operation on October 8 and FlYeasy would commence its operation on October 15, he added.
Official sources said Air Vistara would operate two flights daily from Bhubaneswar to New Delhi and back. Similarly, FlYeasy would make two trips to Bangalore every day.
Notably, there are no direct flights between Bhubaneswar and Bangalore after Jet Airways ceased to operate on this route on October 27, 2013.
After both these airlines start their operation from Biju Patnaik Airport, the total number of flights from the airport would reach 22.
