Flood-prone site chosen for setting up playground!

The locals of Ratanpur village under Mangarajpur GP of Marshaghai block submitted a memorandum before the district administration alleging that Marshaghai BDO Umashankar Behera has selected a flood-prone land (200 feet long and 30 feet wide) connecting to a river embankment for setting up of a playground under the MGNREGA.

The locals alleged that if the playground is set up on the proposed site, then it would be inundated in river water during monsoon period and hence, wouldn’t be worthy of any use. So, the construction of the stadium is a mere misuse of Government funds, they complained.

As the land is not fit, the local Sarpanch also is not in favour of the project, but the BDO is hell bent on pursuing the project and that too, with the use of machines, they slammed further.

The strange fact is while the local Sarpanch should have given a proposal for any work under MGNREGS, in this case, the BDO has selected the land and project. They alleged vested interest of the BDO in the project and bungling of funds.

The locals also have sent a memorandum to the CM, the 5T Secretary and the Chief Secretary, urging them to stop the project.
