Pimps and brothel owners of Mali Sahi are importing Bangladeshi girls to attract more customers to their brothels in order to thrive in flesh trade in the city. The Commissionerate police have got a letter carrying the information recently.
Following continuous raids by the police on beauty parlours and several rented homes in the city, where the illegal act was going unabated, the pimps have concentrated on Mali Sahi, city’s red light area, to run their business freely, the informant said.
Most of the pimps and brothel owners are indulged in women trafficking. Generally, they bring girls from Bangladesh on the pretext of providing them good jobs.
The trafficking came to the fore when Kolkata police arrested a youth, Surya, who had engaged Bangladeshi girls in flesh trade in Mali Sahi area here. Similarly the Kolkata police arrested a scrap businessman from the same locality for using Bangladeshi girls as sex workers in beauty parlours.
“If the policemen from the neighbouring State could arrest the pimps and traffickers from our city, why do the Commissionerate Police fear to conduct raid on Mali Sahi to stop the illegal trafficking,” said the whistleblower who gave details about sex trade and gun smuggling in the city to the Twin City Commissioner of Police Dr RP Sharma.
The person said one Sudarshan Behera brought two girls (Tina and Jhuna) from Bangladesh and two more from West Bengal, Surya (who was arrested earlier) engaged two, one laxmi Mishra pressed into service five, Mahendra Patra one, Bharati Bidhar four and Saheed and Alamin two girls each. Sabita and Bulu, who have four Bengali girls, are operating an outdoor service by sending girls to VIPs and businessmen in and outside the State, said the informant.
Giving more proofs, he said one Nagamani Rao gave between Rs30,000 and Rs50,000 for various standards of girls to some international traffickers and pimps to supply them from Nepal, Bangladesh and Pakistan. The person also stated that several brothel owners have given advances of Rs10,000 (for each girl) to brokers to bring girls from Bangladesh borders and Matia area of Kolkata.
The informant alleged that a few influential people of the city, including relatives of people’s representatives, are helping the middlemen and brothel owners to run their business. He also alleged that some criminals are doing trade on illegal arms and drug peddling freely in Masjid Colony of the city.
The person requested the Police Commissioner to take immediate action against the middlemen to stop trafficking and flesh trade in the area by conducting raid on several areas like Mali Sahi of the city.
